Figure Studies
Nude drawings. Figure studies are a description of the feminine form with soft colors and bold strokes. These are the inspiration for the artist.. The model's pose contributes to composition in a sensual way that brings life to the forefront of the image. With every slight change in the model's position, a new piece of art is created.
While trying to paint the way I see and feel about a subject can be difficult. When I look at a subject I rarely stare at any given part, but rather, I absorb what is in front of me in its totality within a split second of time. What attracts us to the subject in the first place is usually the way light may be affecting one or more of its many abstract parts. I try to capture the impact of that split second image using color and form. There is little regard for detail, and subject matter is secondary, but contributes to the overall composition. To paint in this manner, one must make quick decisions, and react immediately to those decisions. Texture, also plays an important role in my painting. It gives expression and life to the work. This can never be duplicated in a print. The human touch is always present in originals such as these. That is what gives them their uniqueness and their value.
