The new season is upon us, and we as artists look forward to being motivated and producing that great masterpiece, that will open the secret door, and bring us that new series we have been waiting for.  I’m writing in response to the need for continuing education for your artists and patrons.  I have a series of demonstrations and lectures that may be of benefit to your group.  I have strong technical skill in portraits, landscapes and surrealism, using symbolism.  The mediums that I demonstrate in are Oils, Pastels, Charcoal, Watercolor and Pastel (mixed media).  Samples of these subjects, Portraits, Landscapes and Surrealism are included in this package, along with a resume and an artist statement.  Listed below are five, two hour demonstrations or lectures that I can bring to your group. Also enclosed are samples of a two day workshop. I am also available for jurying and judging your art events.

1. Demonstrations are combined with open discussions of my techniques and questions from the artists and patrons.  I bring samples of my artwork as well as a portfolio that I show to a prospective client. ($200 for 2 hours)
2. Slide Lecture of my artwork and an open discussion.  I bring samples of artwork and the portfolio that I use for clients.  ($200 for 1-2 hours)
3. Business of Art Lecture Marketing. 
1. How to create an image for your work.
2. How to make the choices that will get you noticed.
3. How to sell and promote your artwork. Image, personal Image.
4. What you want people to remember after you have laid your brush down?
5. Lecture on how to get the best out of yourself and your artwork.
6. Business records, what to keep for tax time.
7. Resume, Biography, Artist Statement, Mailing List, Business Cars, Postcards for you next exhibit, Action plan for achieving your goals. Promoting your artwork. Press Releases, Media connections.  Promoting yourself. ($200 for 2 hours)
4. Lecture on the Creativity Process building a quality piece of art is done with an idea, drawing, composition, techniques, choice of media, style. Traditional or contemporary.  Are you making these conscious choices or are you just letting things happen?  There should be goals set, but we know creativity happens in spite of all the best laid plans.  How do we grow as an artist, market ourselves, with an image and still stay true to our artist spirit. I will help you with ideas.        
1. Please bring in sketches and list of options, visions or directions that you would like to see the   
2. pieces take. What media do you feel would best express your vision.  I will bring several pieces of       
5. art and a portfolio of surrealistic artwork.  ($200.00 for 1 ½ - 2 hours)
6. Personal Critiques of your artwork.  Each artist who wants to participate would be asked to bring 2 or 3 pieces of artwork. A list of questions we have to ask ourselves.  What is my personal style?  What do I see for the finished piece? Was the vision that inspired my enthusiasm still there, when I completed the work of art?  What do you want each person to take away with them, when they wander through your piece of artwork, your soul? Did you achieve it?

GERRIE GOVERT DRAWING AND PAINTING WORKSHOPS

1 day workshop - Oil or Pastel - Portrait or Figure - Landscape $100.00

2 day workshop - Oil and Pastel - Portrait or Figure - Landscape $200.00

Student may choose to work in either media. There will be one portrait session and one landscape

session. this is a sample of a two day workshop.

Saturday

9:00 - 12:00 Oil portrait demonstration will begin, by sketching the portrait, measuring proportions, establishing a

foundation of shapes, values and color palette. The portrait will be built from general shapes, solid structure, to a

detailed likeness. You may bring your own photo or work from live model.

12:00 - 4:00 Student work session: Getting started on the Portrait drawing, establishing the under painting, focusing

on averaging out the values and colors, with a simple palette of colors. You want to build on a solid foundation,

producing value range first, color second. Working with large general shapes and individual forms and the details that

make each person unique. Individual assistance.

Sunday

9:00 - 12:00 Pastel Figure demonstration will begin by laying out a simple paletter of colors or a particular skin color,

darks to lights, cools to warms and light to shadow. Explanation and laying in general masses and shapes, buildup and

revisions, jeeoubg wutg simple structures, correct proportions and shapes. Working within the planes of the figure and

composition to build a slid form. Discussion of style and technique. You may work from your own photo of from a model

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch (brown bag) open discussion

1:00 - 4:00 Student work session: Getting started on the figure drawing , block in a rough sketch to place the figure on

the surface, freely, to feel the movement of the line and color. Begin blocking in general forms and shapes , with local values and colors.
